One of the most beautiful hill stations in Eastern part of India, Spread over a steep mountain ridge, surrounded by green tea plantations and towered over by majestic Khangchendzonga, Darjeeling is one of the West Bengal’s premier travel destination. Originally set up as a sanitarium or health resort by the British, but it earned its name for its world famous aromatic tea and then with opening up of roads and Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, for tourism. Darjeeling that produce world’s best tea, as well as the amazing narrow gauge Toy Train – an engineering marvel of 1880s which could overcome the steep gradients and curves of the mountains and provided a scenic railway transportation in the hills. One can enjoy the beautiful colonial architecture including mansions and churches of this little beautiful town. Darjeeling’s most popular attractions include monasteries, botanical gardens, a zoo, and the Darjeeling-Rangeet Valley Passenger Ropeway cable car which happens to be the longest Asian cable car. Darjeeling is a wonderful place to walk around and explore the tea estates, villages, and markets.
